Student Debt Forgiveness – Do you qualify?

Mike Givler, the Communications Coordinator at Synod of the Trinity, spoke with Melonee Tubb (Financial Aid for Service associate with the Presbyterian Mission Agency who specializes in counseling pastors on managing student debt) last week about the new rules regarding pastors and church staff. They discussed who can be relieved from their student loans if they have been paying for ten years. For those unaware, a year ago, the Supreme Court included clergy and church staff as now eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, which was not the case before.

PMA and the Board of Pensions are offering FREE coaching and webinars to help qualifying people get their loans in shape to meet the PSLF requirements. There is an Oct. 31 deadline to file a Limited Opportunity Waiver that could take 6-8 weeks to complete depending on a person’s loan situation, so the time to act is now!
