I. LOCALIZATION  

Center CPAJ is one of the eight centers of the children of the street who are in the Town hall of the town of Kigali, capital of Rwanda. It is located in the district of Kicukiro, in the south-east of Kigali.

II. HISTORY

Following the genocide of 1994, the number of children who lived under precarious conditions in the streets of Kigali strongly increased. The Church thus decided to face these problems, tending to being a social plague, via its program “Helps with needy”, it A creates a new shutter, called “child of the street”.

The Center Presbytérien d' Amour of the Young people, C.P.A.J began its activities on June 23, 1998 as a center with open sky and non-profit-making association.

III. MISSION

Rwanda pains to recover from its conflicts and dramas. Consequently, the vulnerability characterizes before all the living condition of the children and young people. Much of them does not have any more a close family to frame them because of the genocide or plague VIH/SIDA. Obtaining an education or professional their is thus difficult.

The center wants to make leave these children and young people their vulnerability by increasing their capacities by an education or professional. By that, the children and the young people will leave their insulation, will réintégreront the Community life and will be able to earn their living. In the final analysis, the stability of the Rwandan company will be reinforced, because these young people will be able to create their own families and to contribute to the socio-economic life.

IV. VISION

The vision of the center is to work with the target group of the children and vulnerable young people. This one consists of the young children/of the street and the children/young orphans or heads of household. The center makes leave the children the street in order to reinstate them in their own families or the families of reception. School or professional rehabilitation will be also assured. The children/young orphans or heads of household undergoing the consequences of the genocide and plague VIH/SIDA are also helped by the center in their vocational training or school. The center is addressed to 7 years young children/until the 30 years age in the district of Kicukiro.

V. ACTIVITIES
Family rehabilitation
  • Recruitment of the children: the picture framer charged starts to attend the sites of the children of the street when the other children are reinstated in the school or the vocational training.
  • At the time of the reception of the children in the center, they must be listened in order to be able to fill their card with identification.
  • Tracing: the clean families or of reception of the children are sought and the reinstated children. A form of family visit must be filled.
The children must be visited in their families 2 times per quarter during 1 year. Each time, a form of family visit must be filled.

 

School reintegration
  • Reorientation of the children during the filling of the card of identification and placement in the schools or vocational trainings.
  • School visits to follow the training per quarter twice.

Vocational training

  • Choice of the young people according to criteria's of recruitment and orientation in the various trades.
  • The center offers vocational trainings to increase the capacities of the young people not having been able to achieve their school education. So much of these young people can neither write nor to read. In order to guarantee the success of the theoretical training, a course of elimination of illiteracy is given to the applicant pupils.
  • 4 trades are taught, of which bakery, the seam, the hairstyle and serigraphy.
  • In parallel with the courses specific to the trades, of information on the grouping in association and the management of finances will be given by the accountant of the center.
  • At the end of the formation, the center will facilitate the entry at the market of work of the young people in their proposer of the places of work in the center where they can work in association.

Psychosocial support
  • An approach of the listening of the young children/is carried out by the social picture framers.
  • From there, the children are directed are directed in group of drawing or plays theatrical according to their age and their problems.
A morning meditation ensures spiritual dimension.
